Character Creation
Priorities, points and contacts.
Shadowrun's fourth edition creates characters with points. Earlier editions and the fifth use a priority system, with points as an advanced option, ranking race, magic, attributes, skills and resources; anything outside the first four, including contacts up to the third edition, is bought with resources.

Reader's Guide
Characters also start with contacts, friends and acquaintances in their social network who often help out. Through them players can learn things their characters could not find alone and even negotiate for skills their characters lack, unusual among role-playing games. The game is skill-based rather than class-based, though the main book presents archetypes, and it runs entirely on six-sided dice.
