The Sixth World
When the Long Count ended, magic and dragons came back.
The Sixth World is Shadowrun's name for its era, which began when the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar ran out, dated in the game to December 24, 2011. Mythological beings such as dragons reappeared and magic returned, and those able to work with its energies are called awakened.

Reader's Guide
Many humans goblinized into orks and trolls and many children were born elves or dwarves. Native American ceremonies let the peoples who practised them command spirits, and a new Ghost Dance movement took control of much of the western United States and Canada as the Native American Nations, leaving Seattle a U.S. city-state enclave. The concept draws on Frank Waters's 1975 book Mexico Mystique and links Shadowrun to Earthdawn, set in the Fourth World, with today's Earth at the end of the Fifth. Shadowrun, Sixth World is also the title of the sixth edition, announced on May 1, 2019 for the game's 30th anniversary.
