Shadowrun for the Super Nintendo is an action role-playing game developed by Australia's Beam Software and released by Data East in 1993. Loosely based on Robert N. Charrette's novel Never Deal with a Dragon and set in 2050, it follows Jake Armitage, an amnesiac left for dead by assassins, as he works out who he is and who wants him dead.

Reader's Guide
Jake is moved directly on an isometric map, while a cursor handles doors, objects, conversation, guns and magic. New words heard in conversation join a bank of terms that Jake can ask other characters about, the only way to progress. Nuyen hires other shadowrunners and buys gear, karma earned from fights is allocated to attributes, skills and magic when Jake rests in a bed, and a cyberdeck lets him enter a top-down cyberspace where dying means dying for real. The project was halted mid-development and restarted in late 1992 under lead designer Pauli Kidd, creator of Beam's Nightshade. It won several industry awards but sold poorly, and has since been called ahead of its time and credited with bringing film noir style to video games. Shadowrun Returns (2013) ties its story to the Sega Genesis game.
