Chaos Code

A fighting game series by FK Digital with evolving mechanics.

Chaos Code

Chaos Code is a fighting game series from FK Digital. The first game, *Chaos Code: Sign of Catastrophe*, hit arcades on Sega's RingWide system on August 4, 2011. A PlayStation 3 port arrived on Hong Kong's PlayStation Network on December 20, 2012, with releases in Japan and North America in 2013 and the PAL region in 2014. This version added characters, balance tweaks, new modes (training, versus, gallery), and made the arcade final boss Kudlak-Sin playable. A remaster, *Chaos Code: New Sign of Catastrophe*, launched in arcades on June 6, 2013, and on PlayStation 4 and Windows on March 15, 2017, adding online play and two new characters. It hit Nintendo Switch on March 26, 2020. An upgraded version, *Chaos Code: Exact Xeno Attack*, was ported by FK Digital and exA-Arcadia in 2020, cutting input lag to 2 frames, giving each character 16 color palettes, and fixing slowdown in certain arcade stages.

The sequel, first teased as *Chaos Code NEXT* at Toushinsai 2015, showed gameplay at Toushinsai 2017 and FKDCup 2018, with a new version of character Kagari as a default. The tentative title was revealed at Evo Japan 2020. FK Digital confirmed a one-year delay on February 9, 2024, possibly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the passing of co-creator Michael (Mickey's younger brother) on Christmas 2017. On February 18, 2021, producer Mickey Lin tweeted that development had resumed. At Angels of Battle on April 2, 2022, a demo was announced for exhibition at the KGP division of FK Digital on April 30, 2022. At EVO Japan 2024, exA-Arcadia revealed the newly titled *Chaos Code: Nemesis Experiment* for arcades on exA-Arcadia, originally planned for 2024 but delayed to November 5, 2025, for early operation.

Gameplay uses an 8-way lever and four buttons (weak punch, weak kick, strong punch, strong kick). Before a fight, players customize characters by picking two "edit special moves" from four options and choosing between "run" (speed) or "step" (technical) modes. Key systems include Guard Break (a slow unblockable) and Tactical Guard/NEX Strike (an air-parry vulnerable to throws), both costing half a bar. Chaos Shift/NEX Drive cancels specials and supers at half a bar. Exceed Chaos, requiring a full meter, removes combo limits, recovers health, and reduces dizzy buildup; in *NEXT*, it becomes NEXT Exceed Chaos, allowing use of Destruction Chaos.
