Background
After Rick rejects a wedding invitation from Birdperson, Jerry is accidentally sent to the wedding by the intergalactic parcel service, and Rick has to attend his best friend's wedding on the distant planet Squanch with the whole family. At the reception the bride, Tammy Gueterman, reveals herself as an agent of the Galactic Federation, kills Birdperson and has agents attack the guests. Rick escapes with his family but says they cannot return to Earth, and after visiting a planet with an endlessly screaming sun and a planet where all life is "on the cob", they hide on a very small planet beyond the Federation's reach.
Jerry suggests returning to Earth and turning Rick in, but the rest of the family defends him; Rick overhears, slips away and gives himself up to the Federation in exchange for his family's freedom, and the family is returned to Earth.
