Background
The episode introduces the alcoholic scientist Rick Sanchez and his teenage grandson Morty Smith. A blackout-drunk Rick wakes Morty for a flight in his newly built vehicle and offers to destroy humanity with a neutrino bomb so that Morty and his crush Jessica can be the new Adam and Eve, before passing out and leaving Morty to defuse it.
The next day Morty's parents Jerry and Beth, who think Rick is a bad influence, consider putting him in a nursing home, while Rick takes Morty out of school to Dimension 35-C to collect Mega Tree seeds for his research. Morty hides the seeds in his rectum to get past intergalactic customs, and the two escape in a shootout with bureaucratic alien insects. The pilot had a positive reception.
