Lore & Background

The Galactic Federation Prison is a high-security facility on a prison planet where Rick C-137 is held after surrendering to the Federation in the Season 2 finale "The Wedding Squanchers." He is incarcerated under the charges of having committed "everything." In the Season 3 premiere "The Rickshank Rickdemption," Rick is shown in a sterile white cell with a magnetic lock and a suppression field. He is interrogated by a mind-reading device, which he uses to trick his interrogator into implanting a virus, allowing him to hijack the interrogator's body and escape. During his escape, Rick reveals that he had actually turned himself in to access the Federation's supercomputer and wipe it out financially, before taking out the Council of Ricks while saving Morty and Summer.

Reader's Guide

Culture within these walls is defined by isolation and surveillance; inmates are stripped of tools capable of portal generation or reality manipulation. The architecture favors sterile white surfaces and magnetic locking mechanisms designed to resist technological tampering. Inhabitants range from alien warlords to rogue Ricks, all segregated by threat level. Narrative significance lies in the Federation’s attempt to impose order on chaos, often clashing with Rick C-137’s anti-authoritarian philosophy. These locations serve as plot devices to test the characters’ ability to survive without their usual gadgets, forcing reliance on wit rather than science. Ultimately, these prisons represent the limits of galactic law against genius-level intellects who can bypass any system given enough time and frustration.
