Lore & Background

Haegemonia takes place in the distant future where humanity has colonized the Solar System. Tensions between the World Government of Earth and colonial Mars lead to a summit on Earth's Moon, but the Martian representative's shuttle is destroyed en route by an unknown third party, sparking a civil war. The player can side with Captain Jack Garner of Earth or Captain Nilea Cortilliari of Mars. After the war, humanity unites under the Legions of Iron and expands into space, encountering the Kariak and Darzok races. The player discovers the Darzok are manipulating the Kariak, and the Kariak then ally with humanity and they jointly defeat the Darzok, foiling their plan to annihilate both races.

Reader's Guide

Haegemonia: Legions of Iron received generally favorable reviews on Metacritic. Its expansion, The Solon Heritage, added a skirmish mode, modding tools, new game modes (Informant, Mess-up, Drill), new ships including Solon vessels with superior firepower but high upkeep, and new spy missions. The expansion was not published in the USA due to contract issues involving Wanadoo. The game's research system uses research points allocated per mission, with technologies carrying over. The espionage system features invisible spy ships that can perform missions on planets, ships, or stations, and can detect enemy spies. Weaponry includes proton, ion, quantum, and missile types, each with distinct characteristics. The music was composed by Ervin Nagy and Tamas Kreiner.
