N's full name is Natural Harmonia Gropius. He was beaten by Ghetsis at a young age due to his ability to speak to and understand Pokémon. Because of this, he was raised to believe humans and Pokémon should be separated. He acts as the "King" and Boss of Team Plasma, and reawakens the Legendary Pokémon Reshiram or Zekrom, depending on the player's version, to assist with his goals. After the player convinces him to abandon his goals, and Ghetsis is defeated, N flies away on his Pokémon. In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, he reappears and saves the player character of that game from being killed by Ghetsis. After Ghetsis's defeat, N can be found in the ruins of his castle, where he will challenge the player to a final battle with his Legendary Pokémon.

In Their Own Story

N stood as the King of Team Plasma, wielding the legendary dragon Reshiram or Zekrom to enforce his belief that Pokémon should be separated from humans. But when the player defeated him and Ghetsis revealed his true villainy, N's worldview shattered. He flew away on his legendary Pokémon, abandoning his throne. Years later, in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, N returned to save the new player character from being killed by Ghetsis. After Ghetsis's final defeat, N retreated to the ruins of his castle, where he issued one last challenge: a battle against his legendary Pokémon, a final test of the bond he once denied.

Reader's Guide

N is a rival character in Pokémon Black and White who forces the player to confront the moral question of whether capturing Pokémon is ethical. He battles the player multiple times, culminating in a confrontation where he uses the version-exclusive legendary dragon (Reshiram in White, Zekrom in Black). After the player convinces him to abandon his goals and Ghetsis is defeated, N flies away.
