The Race
The Amazing Race Philippines pits eleven two-person teams against each other in a race across the country. The competition unfolds in segments called legs, where teams travel and perform tasks to earn clues that lead them to a Pit Stop. At the Pit Stop, teams rest for twelve hours before the next leg begins. The first team to check in at a Pit Stop usually wins a prize, while the last team is typically eliminated, unless it is a non-elimination leg. The final leg features the last three teams, and the first to reach the ultimate destination takes home a cash prize of two million Philippine pesos. Each team consists of two people who share a pre-existing relationship. Twenty-two participants have taken part in the show, including some local celebrities. Contestants must be at least twenty-one years old and must be either a Filipino citizen or a permanent resident of the Philippines for a minimum of two years. The first season’s cast included Danielle Castaño, who competed in Miss World 2008; Raymund Vergara, a Mister Philippines 2003 World contestant; LJ Moreno, a former contestant on Pinoy Fear Factor; Jervi Li and Saida Diola, who were part of the noontime show Eat Bulaga; football players Armand and Anton del Rosario; and ABS-CBN reporter Angel Movido. Route Markers are yellow and red flags that indicate where teams need to go. These markers are often attached to clue boxes, but they can also mark the location for completing tasks or line a course teams must follow. Clues are hidden in sealed envelopes, usually inside clue boxes, and provide teams with instructions and tasks to advance. A Route Info is a general clue that may require a team to complete a task before receiving the next clue. A Detour offers a choice between two tasks, and teams can switch tasks if they find one too difficult. A Roadblock is a task that only one team member can perform, with the team deciding who will do it based on a brief description before learning the full details. A Fast Forward is a task that only one team can attempt, allowing that team to skip all remaining tasks and go straight to the next Pit Stop. Each team is allowed to use only one Fast Forward during the entire season.
Places visited
By the end of its second season, The Amazing Race Philippines had taken contestants through 14 cities and 10 municipalities spread across 13 Philippine provinces. The table below tracks how often each province appeared, though Metro Manila is counted as a province for this purpose even though it is actually a cluster of cities. Similarly, independent cities are grouped with their associated provinces despite not being official parts of them. Only provinces that hosted actual route markers, challenges, or finish mats are included; transport stopovers like Quezon City in season one and connecting flights are ignored. Rankings in the table are determined first by number of seasons visited, then by number of Pit Stops, then by number of provinces visited, and finally by number of individual places visited.
