Dionysus, known at camp as Mr. D, is the god of wine, parties and madness and the reluctant director of Camp Half-Blood. He was made the head of Camp Half-Blood for 100 years as punishment for pursuing 'an off-limits wood nymph' twice, and he is banned from drinking wine. Despite his grumpy demeanor and constant complaints about his duties, he remains a powerful figure within the camp's hierarchy.

He typically refers to Percy by variations on his real name, only calling him Percy a few times in the series, usually in extremely serious moments. His role requires him to balance his godly nature with the mundane responsibilities of running a summer camp for children who are targets of monsters.
