Star Trek: Typhon Pact

A Star Trek cold war saga of alliances and covert operations.

Last updated

Star Trek: Typhon Pact is a series of eight novels set in the Star Trek universe, featuring crossovers between The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Titan. The series depicts a Cold War-like situation in the Star Trek universe, with the Typhon Pact itself compared to the Warsaw Pact. One novel in the series has been described as an allegory for the Arab Spring.

Plot summary

The Typhon Pact series follows the events of the Destiny (2008) trilogy and the stand-alone novel A Singular Destiny (2009). The plot details the formation of the Typhon Pact, an alliance of Romulans, Breen, Tholians, Gorn, Tzenkethi, and Kinshaya formed against the Federation after the Borg defeat in 2381. In response, the United Federation of Planets, Klingon Empire, Cardassian Union, and Ferengi Alliance create a collective security organization later called the Khitomer Accords Alliance, similar to NATO. A cold war ensues, with characters from the Star Trek universe conducting intelligence gathering, covert operations, and sabotage, particularly focused on the Pact's efforts to acquire quantum slipstream drive.

These actions escalate to the destruction of Deep Space Nine as part of a Pact attempt to access the Bajoran wormhole for Dominion technology to develop the drive. Ultimately, the Pact abandons its efforts, concluding their actions caused more damage to peace than if they had done nothing. The first few books are stand-alone novels, while the final three form a trilogy called The Khitomer Accords Saga. The novels feature the Enterprise-E under Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the Titan under Captain William T. Riker, and the Aventine under Captain Ezri Dax.
