Star Trek: Titan
A new era of exploration aboard the USS Titan.
Last updated
Star Trek: Titan is a series of science fiction novels set in the Star Trek media franchise, published by Simon & Schuster imprints from 2005 to 2017. The novels follow the USS Titan under Captain William T. Riker, a character from Star Trek: The Next Generation, and are set after the events of the 2002 film Star Trek: Nemesis. The series features other cast members from Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, including Riker's wife Deanna Troi and Commander Tuvok.
Concept
The series begins after Commander William Riker, having served as first officer under Captain Jean-Luc Picard for fifteen years, marries Deanna Troi and is promoted to captain of the USS Titan. The novels are set in a new era following a decade of conflict with the Borg, Cardassians, Klingons, and Dominion, with Starfleet renewing its mission of peaceful exploration. The Titan is crewed by the most biologically varied and culturally diverse crew in Starfleet history. Their first mission, in the novel Taking Wing, involves power-sharing talks among Romulan factions to prevent civil war after Praetor Shinzon's death.
Characters
Captain William T. Riker, a human male, served as executive officer of the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E under Captain Jean-Luc Picard from 2364. He turned down numerous commands until taking the Titan after the destruction of the Scimitar, having married Deanna Troi shortly before.
Commander Christine Vale, a human female, is the Titan's executive officer, previously chief tactical officer on the Enterprise-E; her family on Izar were peace officers disappointed by her Starfleet choice. Commander Deanna Troi, half-Human and half-Betazoid, serves as chief diplomatic officer and counselor, having held similar roles on the Enterprises under Picard, who called her his guide and conscience. She is an empath and can communicate telepathically with other Betazoids, and joined Starfleet after a romantic relationship with Riker.
Flagship
The USS Titan is a Luna-class starship designed by Sean Tourangeau in 2005 for a contest hosted by Simon & Schuster. The design was never seen on-screen in any Star Trek film or television series, though a variant appeared in a 2020 episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks. In Decipher's Star Trek Customizable Card Game, the Titan is identified as a Prometheus-class starship, while the Luna class appears in Star Trek Online as a Tier-5 Reconnaissance Science Vessel.
