History
The club was formed in 1946 and became a founder member of the Mid-Cheshire League in 1948. In their debut season they won the Cheshire Amateur Cup, a trophy they claimed again in 1968–69. The league added a second division in 1975, securing Barnton a place in Division One. Their first league championship came in 1979–80, alongside the league's Challenge Cup.
They retained the Challenge Cup the following season and repeated the double in 1982–83. After winning the Challenge Cup and Mid-Cheshire Senior Cup in 1983–84, they took a third league title in 1988–89. After finishing third in 2003–04, they won the league again in 2004–05. The league was renamed the Cheshire League in 2007, and Barnton were relegated to Division Two after finishing bottom of Division One in 2008–09.
Four seasons later they won the Division Two title in 2012–13, returning to Division One. A fifth-place finish the following season earned promotion to Division One of the North West Counties League. In 2015–16 they placed third in Division One, then defeated Cheadle Town 4–1 in the play-off semi-finals and beat Bacup Borough 2–0 in the final before a record crowd of 554, securing promotion to the Premier Division; that season also saw them win the Division One Trophy, beating Hanley Town 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw.
The 2017–18 campaign ended with a second-from-bottom finish in the Premier Division, resulting in relegation back to Division One.
