Background
The original Barnoldswick Town joined the Lancashire Combination in 1924, but after finishing bottom in 1932–33 and 1933–34, they left the league. They joined the Yorkshire League in 1935, left after one season, and folded. The modern club started in 1972 as Barnoldswick United (1972) in the Craven & District League, moving to the East Lancashire League in the early 1990s. In 1997, they switched to Division Two of the West Lancashire League, finishing runners-up in their first season and earning promotion to Division One.
The following season, 1998–99, they won Division One, securing promotion to the Premier Division. In 2003, the club absorbed Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and was renamed Barnoldswick Town. A sixth-place finish in 2008–09 earned promotion to Division One of the North West Counties League, and they followed that with back-to-back promotions after finishing runners-up in Division One in 2009–10, moving up to the Premier Division.
Their best FA Cup performance came in the second qualifying round in 2024–25, and their best FA Vase run was the third round in 2012–13. The club's record attendance of 1,004 was set on 7 October 2023 against Bury in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
