Each year's competition begins with audition stages, the first conducted by production teams across various cities in Cambodia. This stage is open to all forms of acts and judged by an independent group, determining who proceeds to the Judges' Auditions held in a public venue within select cities and attended by the judges. Participants are held offstage in a waiting room and given a number denoting their performance order. Upon being called, they have 90 seconds to demonstrate their act before a live audience. Each judge has a buzzer and may use it during a performance if unimpressed; if all judges buzz, the performance ends immediately. After the performance, judges give constructive criticism and each casts a vote; a majority vote approving the act is required to advance, otherwise the participant is eliminated. Many acts that move on may be cut by producers due to limited slots for the next stage. Filming for each season begins during the Judges' Auditions, with the presenter standing in the wings to interview and comment on performances. A Golden Buzzer is placed in the center of the judging panel; each judge may use it once per season to send an act automatically into the live shows, regardless of other judges' opinions. Initially, the buzzer simply saved an act from elimination.
