Gameplay
Players control Trey, a cyborg Lumen who has lost his memory. Trey uses a Holoken to catch Animon or perform preemptive attacks that grant a battle advantage; the Holoken can also be imbued with Animon elemental energy for world interactions. In battle, up to four Animon can fight alongside Trey, each with an Attribute that defines its specialties. Animon can use their traits to add special effects to attacks based on their affinities. Side activities include crafting, decorating the Anispace, and exploring scenic views in Talea. The game uses a 2.5D artstyle similar to Octopath Traveler’s 2D-HD, with more vibrant colors and detailed environments.
Synopsis
The protagonist Trey is found unconscious in the Scarlet Woods by Ales, who brings him to Iris Hamlet. After meeting Ales’ uncle Kapan, Trey learns he has potential as a Lumen and pursues that path to recover his memories. The story takes place in Talea, a region scarred by a past civil war and divided into two factions: Mythos (tradition) and Logos (progress). After training under Max and defeating a powerful Animon, a calamity destroys Iris Hamlet. Trey rescues Nada and decides to travel across Talea with Ales to find clues about his past.
Development
LumenTale: Memories of Trey represents Beehive Studios’ evolution of previous work into a new monster-collector IP. The team raised funds via a Kickstarter campaign that collected EUR €140,423 from 2,914 backers, with total crowdfunding reaching EUR €148,921 including other platforms. Originally planned for December 2024, the game was delayed to May 26, 2026. During development, Beehive Studios signed a publishing deal with Team17, known for Monster Sanctuary, which provided support. The developers aimed to create a monster-collector game focused on plot, lore, and old-school RPG mechanics, drawing influences from Persona, Undertale, and Xenoblade. The soundtrack, composed in-house, includes over 140 songs and features an ending credits track by Emi Evans.
