Lore & Background

The Jets were originally the Titans of New York, founded in 1959 by Harry Wismer. After financial struggles, the team was purchased in 1963 by a syndicate led by Sonny Werblin, who renamed them the New York Jets. Under coach Weeb Ewbank and quarterback Joe Namath, the Jets defeated the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III, becoming the first AFL team to beat an NFL club in a championship game. The team has since experienced periods of success, including AFC Championship Game appearances in 1982, 1998, 2009, and 2010, but has not won a conference championship since the merger.

Reader's Guide

The Jets' team colors are green and white, with black used as a trim color and a black alternate uniform since 2019. Their current primary uniforms are based on the 1978–1989 design with green helmets and a wordmark logo. The team's training facility is the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey, which opened in 2008. The Jets have the longest active playoff drought in the NFL and the longest championship drought among New York's major professional sports franchises.
