Ted Simmons
Switch-hitting catcher of the 1982 American League champions.
Ted Simmons, nicknamed "Simba", is a former catcher who played 21 major league seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves, and is regarded as one of the best-hitting catchers in the history of the game. After a feud with Whitey Herzog in St. Louis, he was traded to Milwaukee with Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich at the December 1980 Winter Meetings. With the Brewers he helped win the 1982 American League East title and the ALCS against the California Angels, and he hit two home runs in the World Series that Milwaukee lost to his old club in seven games. He later returned to the organization as the Brewers' bench coach from the 2008 season.
