Mike Lowell

Michael Averett Lowell, born February 24, 1974 in Puerto Rico to Cuban-born parents and raised in Miami from age four, played 13 MLB seasons at third base for the Yankees (1998), Marlins (1999-2005) and Red Sox (2006-2010).

He starred at Coral Gables Senior High, then played at Florida International University, which retired his No. 15, and graduated in 1997 with a finance degree. The Yankees drafted him in 1995; Florida acquired him on February 1, 1999 for Mark Johnson and Ed Yarnall, and he became one of the league's top third basemen. In 2003 he won a Silver Slugger and got five hits in the World Series as the Marlins beat the Yankees, and he added a Gold Glove in 2005. A four-time All-Star, he was later a World Series MVP with Boston.
