Combe (mythology)

Daughter of Asopus, mother of the Corybantes, and a bird.

Combe, a daughter of the river god Asopus, was a figure in Greek mythology associated with the island Euboea. She was equated with Chalcis, named for her role in making bronze weapons, and was considered the first woman to cohabit with a man, mother of one hundred children. In Nonnus' Dionysiaca, she was the consort of Socus and mother of the seven Corybantes. Ovid mentions a Combe of Pleuron, surnamed Ophias, who was changed into a bird to escape danger.
