Favela

The favela in Max Payne 3 is Nova Esperança in São Paulo. After blaming himself for the kidnapping of Fabiana, Max swears off alcohol, shaves his head and goes into the favela to find her and Serrano, acting on information from a dying Crachá Preto operative; when the UFE raid it, he has to rescue Marcelo and Giovanna, captured by the Comando Sombra while trying to save Fabiana. Rockstar modelled the fictional UFE on Brazilian special police units such as BOPE and pointed fans to the 2007 film Elite Squad for its favela raids. The Hostage Negotiation pack later added the multiplayer maps Favelas of O Palácio Strip Club and Favela Heights.
