Production

In early 2014, VH1 confirmed that Love & Hip Hop would return for a fifth season, which eventually premiered in December of that year. Most of the previous main cast members came back, but Tahiry Jose, Erica Jean, and K. Michelle did not return due to departures or being let go. Cyn Santana was moved up to the main cast, and Chrissy Monroe, who was Chink Santana’s girlfriend, also joined. The supporting cast added producer Cisco Rosado, Diamond Strawberry (daughter of baseball player Darryl Strawberry), Chink Santana, and up-and-coming performers Precious Paris and Jhonni Blaze.

The following spring, VH1 announced a live two-hour special called Love & Hip Hop: The Wedding, centered on the marriage of cast members Yandy Smith and Mendeecees Harris. It aired on May 25, 2015, and was preceded by six webisodes released on VH1’s website starting May 12. The special drew over two million viewers and included appearances from other VH1 reality stars, such as those from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood, Black Ink Crew, and Mob Wives, as well as from Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
