Production
In September 2019, word got out that several familiar faces were back on set for the tenth anniversary season, with Big Fish Entertainment now handling production instead of Eastern TV. Chrissy Lampkin and Jim Jones returned to the franchise after a seven-year break, joined by Olivia Longott, Somaya Reece, Erica Mena, and Tahiry Jose. Newcomers included rappers Jennaske and Phresher, plus his girlfriend Jenn Coreano. Danny García and Erica Mendez were initially listed as cast members, and Emily Bustamante was in discussions to come back but never showed.
Mama Jones, Cisco Rosado, and Peter Gunz appeared later in the season. VH1 officially announced the season on November 4, 2019, with a teaser that read “the homecoming begins,” confirming Chrissy’s comeback. A five-minute supertrailer dropped on December 6, 2019. The season featured a brand-new opening credits sequence, and couples like Remy Ma and Papoose, as well as Erica Mena and Safaree, were credited together.
For the first time in the show’s history, the season was split into two parts. Part one ran from December 16, 2019, to March 9, 2020, with part two planned for spring. On March 26, 2020, Joe Budden revealed on his podcast that filming was still happening despite the COVID-19 pandemic, but he refused to continue, telling a producer he had wrapped things up with Cyn and everyone else and had nothing left to report. The remaining episodes were put on hold indefinitely because of the virus.
