Series synopsis
The reality series K. Michelle: My Life follows the R&B/soul singer and songwriter as she navigates her personal and professional life. A rotating group of her close friends and associates appear in confessional-style interviews throughout the show. This circle includes her best friend Paris Phillips; her "gay husband," makeup artist and hairstylist Jonathan Fernandez; nightclub promoter Nema Kamar; and Tracie Renee, an old friend from Memphis, Tennessee, who tries to mend her relationship with K. Michelle after being accused of stealing money from her.
The first season closes with an epilogue where K. Michelle reveals that Paris also allegedly took money from her, ending their friendship, and that she has cut ties with Nema and Tracie as well. Guest stars in the first season include her son Chase Bowman, her mother Angles Pate, life coach Tony Gaskins, Arsenio Hall, Joseline Hernandez, Karlie Redd, and Russell Simmons. The first season also covers K. Michelle's move to New York City and the recording of her second album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?.
The show returned for a second season, adding aspiring rapper P. London to the cast. London made headlines in 2014 after a female police officer was suspended for appearing in her music video "What's Up, Bitch?". This season features guest appearances from K. Michelle's on-again, off-again boyfriend Bobby Maze, his aunt Aunt CC, Trina, producers Pop & Oak, Safaree Samuels, Prince Mario Max Schaumburg-Lippe, and Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta's Jessica Dime. The second season chronicles her life in Los Angeles and the recording of her third album, More Issues Than Vogue.
A third season was renewed, with K. Michelle's sister Shalah Pate, an aspiring motivational speaker and social worker, joining the cast. K. Michelle announced on social media that this would be her final season. Guest appearances include her ex-girlfriend Melisia Lomax, her boyfriend Dr. Kastan Sims, high school friend Viara Iyadunni, her father Eddie Pate, her artist Gabby Green, T-Pain, Harmony Samuels, Dreezy, and Big Tigger. The series finale aired on February 6, 2017. The third season covers her return to Atlanta, the launch of her restaurant Puff & Petals, a trip to her hometown of Memphis, and the recording of her fourth album, Kimberly: The People I Used to Know.
