Production
The Los Angeles spin-off of Love & Hip Hop was confirmed by VH1 on August 18, 2014, with its debut set for September 15, 2014. A four-minute super-trailer and an eleven-minute promo video featuring cast interviews dropped on September 8, 2014. The main cast included Ray J, Soulja Boy, Omarion and his girlfriend Apryl Jones, Lil' Fizz and his ex-girlfriend Moniece Slaughter, Teairra Marí, and former celebrity publicist Hazel-E. Supporting players were Ray's assistant Morgan Hardman, Teddy Riley's daughter Nia Riley, Fizz's girlfriend Amanda Secor, Yung Berg, radio host Yesi Ortiz, club promoter Sincere Show, socialite Nikki Mudarris, and video vixen Masika Kaylsha.
Omarion's mother Leslie Burrell also appeared in a supporting role, though she wasn't in the initial cast announcement. On November 5, 2014, Yung Berg was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his girlfriend and fellow cast member Masika, hours after the reunion special was taped. VH1 immediately fired him from the show. On December 8, 2014, series creator Mona Scott-Young said she regretted the firing, calling it a network decision.
The two-part reunion included a public service announcement on domestic violence and a VH1 statement condemning Berg's actions.
