Nightmare Army
Shadowy minions summoned from the void to serve the nightmare incarnate.
The Nightmare Army refers to the collective forces of monsters and shadowy minions summoned by the entity known as Nightmare during its invasion of Dreamland. First encountered in Kirby's Adventure and later in Kirby Super Star, this group is not canonically defined as a formal faction; rather, it is a loose collection of magical constructs conjured from the void. Unlike formal organizations such as the Galactic Knights or the Dark Nebula, these forces are not affiliated with Dark Matter—Nightmare is a separate entity entirely. They serve solely to protect Nightmare's final form, a wizard-like entity, and facilitate his goal of corrupting the Fountain of Dreams to spread nightmares across Dreamland—a localized threat to prevent good dreams.

Lore & Background
Nightmare is a separate entity from Dark Matter in Kirby canon, often taking the form of a wizard-like entity in Kirby's Adventure and a sentient sword in Kirby Super Star. When it infiltrates Dreamland, it does not arrive alone; it tears open rifts in reality to summon an army of corrupted beasts and shadow warriors. These creatures are extensions of Nightmare’s will, lacking true individuality but possessing immense strength derived from negative energy. The lore surrounding this faction emphasizes Nightmare's corrupting influence. The minions attack Kirby to protect Nightmare and his plans, but there is no canonical evidence that they feed on the life force of Dreamland’s inhabitants. Their role is simply to serve as obstacles in Kirby's quest to restore the Fountain of Dreams and ensure good dreams return to Dreamland.
Reader's Guide
The Nightmare Army serves as the primary antagonist force during the invasion of Dreamland led by the entity known as Nightmare. Composed largely of Dark Matter fragments and corrupted monsters, this group seeks to spread darkness across the land using the power of a sentient sword. Unlike organized military factions, these minions are summoned directly from the void to overwhelm Kirby and his allies with sheer numbers. Their goals revolve around consuming the energy of Dreamland to fuel their master's growth into a larger form capable of total domination. Key members include various shadowy warriors and beasts that appear throughout the Great Cave Offensive. They act as the vanguard for Dark Matter, testing Kirby's resolve before he confronts the true source of the corruption. Ultimately, their role is to delay the hero while Nightmare absorbs enough power to transform. Despite their ferocity, they lack the cohesion of later factions like the Dark Nebula, relying instead on magical summoning rather than strategic command structures. Their defeat marks Kirby's first major victory against the cosmic threat of Dark Matter.
