The plot follows Yuta Okkotsu, a bullied high school student whose bullies are killed by a Cursed Spirit that clings to him—the spirit of his childhood friend Rika, who died in a freak accident. Teacher Satoru Gojo recruits Yuta to Tokyo Jujutsu Technical High, where he meets fellow students Maki Zen'in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda. During a mission, Yuta is attacked by a high-level Curse sent by Suguru Geto, a former student of Gojo who defected and killed over a hundred innocent people. Geto declares war to release a thousand Curses upon the city, but his real goal is to distract Gojo and kill Yuta to add Rika to his collection. Yuta, enraged at seeing his friends hurt, promises himself as a sacrifice to Rika, strengthening their bond and severely wounding Geto, who is later executed by Gojo. Yuta breaks the curse, and Rika passes on peacefully.
