Tetsujin Tiger Seven

A modern tokusatsu hero with an artificial heart.

Tetsujin Tiger Seven, or Iron Man Tiger Seven, was a tokusatsu show from P Productions that aired on Fuji TV from October 1973 to March 1974, running 26 episodes. Unlike the studio’s earlier cat-themed ninja heroes set in feudal Japan, this story takes place in the modern day. The overseas English title is Tiger Seven. It was P Productions’ bid to create a series like Kamen Rider, and they brought in Shunsuke Kikuchi, who composed music for the first eight Kamen Rider shows. But the series proved too dark and gritty for its era, hurting its ratings and leading to cancellation after 26 episodes. The hero, Takigawa Go, gains his powers from an artificial heart and a magic pendant, transforming with the phrase “Tiger Spark.” His Suzuki motorcycle becomes the self-driving Spike Go when he roars.
