Media

The light novel series, originally titled Shoukan Kyoushi Real bout High School, centers on a teacher at Daimon High, unlike the manga and anime. The main storyline spans 19 volumes, with the EX line comprising five volumes and the ED line three volumes. Characters in the novel are largely identical to those in the manga and anime, with minor adjustments. The story depicts a school that grades fights rather than stopping them. It introduces Ryoko Mitsurugi, the reigning K-Fight champion and self-described Samurai Girl, and Shizuma Kusunagi, a traveling street fighter with mysterious powers. The manga begins comedic but grows more serious as Ryoko and Shizuma become entangled with student councils and a criminal organization, and Ryoko joins a female fighting group named after the historical Shinsengumi. Ryoko finds a pendant that transports her to another dimension called Solvania, where she must fight monsters as part of a plot to revive Solvania.

Characters

Ryoko Mitsurugi is Daimon High's current K-Fight champion, skilled in Kendo and known as the Samurai Girl due to her love of samurai dramas. She has an aunt named Madoka Mitsurugi. Ryoko seeks the way of the sword but is self-conscious about her height of 5'9" in the manga and her samurai obsession. Only Tatsuya Shishikura, captain of the kendo team, can beat her in formal kendo. Her rival is Azumi Kiribayashi, who also loves Tatsuya. Ryoko helps the drama club with school plays. In the manga, she aims to become a great woman through the sword and acts as a vigilante, later leading an all-female fighting group. Shizuma Kusanagi was the K-Fight champion until Ryoko beat him a year ago; he returns for a rematch. He practices kamui, a method granting fire-ki abilities, and uses self-styled street fighting techniques. He is not in any school club but creates his own fan club in the manga. He shows softness toward Miyuki, Sara, and sometimes Ryoko, to whom he admits romantic feelings in volume 6 of the manga. Skilled with guitar and piano, he rides a motorcycle. He learned kamui no ken from an old man named Ryugan Higishikata. In the manga, he is modeled after Donnie Yen and uses nunchakus in his final fight with Ryoko. Sara Himekawa is Shizuma's friend with blonde hair.
