In Their Own Story

In Jordan College, an eleven-year-old Lyra Belacqua witnesses the Master attempt to poison her uncle, Lord Asriel. After being entrusted with an alethiometer by the Master, she discovers Mrs. Coulter is the leader of the Gobblers, a group kidnapping children for intercision experiments at Bolvangar. Lyra flees to the Gyptians, learning that Asriel and Coulter are her parents, before joining an expedition to Svalbard. There, Asriel reveals his plan to destroy the source of Dust, severing Roger from his dæmon to create a portal to another universe. Lyra follows through this opening into Cittàgazze, where she meets twelve-year-old Will Parry. Together they retrieve her stolen alethiometer and learn that Will holds the Subtle Knife. When Mrs. Coulter kidnaps Lyra in the Land of the Dead, angels Balthamos and Baruch inform Will he must deliver the knife to Asriel as a weapon against The Authority. With help from local girl Ama and Gallivespian spies, Will rescues Lyra from her mother's cave hideout. Lord Asriel and Mrs. Coulter then work together to destroy Metatron, the Authority's Regent, succeeding in their mission though they both suffer annihilation.
