Ministry of Magic

The government of the British and Irish wizarding world.

The Ministry of Magic is the secret government of the British and Irish wizarding community, led by the Minister for Magic and first mentioned in Philosopher's Stone. Its departments sit on different levels of its headquarters and include magical law enforcement with the Auror Office, the Department of Mysteries, and offices for magical accidents, games and sports and international cooperation; Obliviators modify the memories of Muggles who witness magic. In Order of the Phoenix the Ministry refuses to believe that Voldemort has returned.
