Ignotus Peverell is one of the three original owners of the Deathly Hallows, according to the in-universe fairy tale 'The Tale of the Three Brothers' in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He is the original owner of the Cloak of Invisibility, one of the three Hallows. The original owners of the Hallows were the brothers Antioch, Cadmus and Ignotus Peverell.

In the fairy tale 'The Tale of the Three Brothers', Ignotus Peverell was the third brother, who asked for a cloak that would allow him to hide from Death. Death gave him his own Cloak of Invisibility. The Cloak of Invisibility, one of the Deathly Hallows, belonged to Ignotus Peverell and was passed down to his descendant James Potter. The Cloak of Invisibility was passed down through his descendants, eventually reaching James Potter, Harry's father. After James's death, Dumbledore gave the Cloak to Harry. The Cloak is unique among invisibility cloaks because it cannot be worn out by time or spells. Ignotus's bloodline survived through the Peverell family in Godric's Hollow, and this line eventually merged with the Potter family, making Harry Potter a direct descendant of Ignotus.
