Background

Rachel is the only child of Richard and Darlene Carruthers, friends of Laurie Strode who became Jamie's foster parents after Laurie and Jimmy Lloyd were apparently killed in a car accident. Laurie used to babysit Rachel, who is nine years older than Jamie and becomes like a sister to her.

On October 31, 1988, Rachel at first treats Jamie as a problem for her plans with her boyfriend Brady, but she ends up protecting Jamie from her uncle and helping to kill him. Jamie picks a clown costume for trick-or-treating that looks very much like the one Michael wore.

In Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) Rachel appears only briefly before Michael kills her with a pair of scissors, and her friend Tina takes over as Jamie's protector. Critic Patrick Bromley called her a fully realized teenage girl.
