Dominus (band)
Danish death/groove metal band that spawned Volbeat.
Active between 1991 and 2000/2001, Dominus was a Danish band from Ringsted blending death metal and groove metal. Their output included two demos, one single, and four albums. The group is best remembered for its early death metal work, but shifted toward groove metal with 1997's *Vol.Beat*. That sound was later combined with thrash metal and a return to death metal elements on their final album, *Godfallos* (2000). After the band dissolved, vocalist and guitarist Michael Poulsen founded Volbeat—named after the Dominus album *Vol.Beat*—which continued that general style alongside many other influences. Guitarist Jens Peter Storm later joined the Danish thrash metal band TONS, which also featured fellow former Dominus member Daniel Preisler Larsen.
