Lore & Background
The foundations of De La Tierra were laid around 2005 towards the end of A.N.I.M.A.L.'s run when Andrés Giménez and Alex González began discussing the idea of forming a band together. They eventually brought in Sr. Flavio to play bass in 2011 and finalized the lineup in 2012 with the addition of Andreas Kisser on lead guitar. The group self-produced their debut album in several locations across South America, signed to Sony Music Latin, and released their debut single, Maldita Historia, on 30 September 2013. The album was released on 14 January 2014.
In 2016 the band released its second album, II. In 2016 Sr. Flavio left De La Tierra and was replaced by Puerto Rican bassist Harold Hopkins. The band's current lineup includes Giménez, Kisser, Hopkins, and González.
Reader's Guide
De La Tierra represents a notable collaboration among prominent musicians from different Latin American countries, blending their distinct backgrounds into a heavy metal supergroup. Their formation brought together members of Sepultura, A.N.I.M.A.L., Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, and Maná, each with significant followings in their respective genres. The band's debut album, released on Roadrunner Records, marked a major label release for a Latin American supergroup. Their second album, II, followed in 2016. The departure of original bassist Sr. Flavio in 2017 and his replacement by Harold Hopkins demonstrated the band's ability to continue evolving. De La Tierra's significance lies in its cross-border collaboration and the fusion of different Latin American rock and metal traditions, though the source article does not provide details on critical reception or broader cultural impact.
