In Their Own Story
The corridor hums with the low buzz of fluorescent tubes. Kang adjusts the strap of a radio, eyes flicking past the half-eaten ration on the desk. Somewhere above, the satellite's thrusters fire in short, cold bursts, and the floor shivers. He doesn't look up. In this place, looking up means looking at the thing that's about to burn the sky, and nobody in the lower decks has been told what that means yet. He taps the radio twice, waits. Nothing. He taps it again. The hum continues. He sits back down, picks up the ration, and tries to pretend the floor isn't shaking.
