Reader's Guide
Boris Grishenko is a minor antagonist in GoldenEye, encountered primarily in the film's climax set in a hidden base in Cuba. He is not a combatant but a computer programmer who operates the GoldenEye satellite controls. Boris does not engage in direct combat; instead, his presence signals the stakes of the mission: preventing him from using the satellite to erase the Bank of England's financial records and trigger a global financial meltdown. Bond must sabotage the antenna's gears to prevent Boris from regaining control of the satellite. Boris's defeat comes when Bond activates a grenade concealed in a pen, causing a chemical explosion that allows Bond and Natalya to escape. Boris is later frozen solid by a cascade caused by ruptured liquid nitrogen canisters.
