Production

Twilight of the Gods was first conceived by Jay Oliva during a phone call with Netflix's John Derderian, who asked if Oliva knew about Norse mythology. Oliva pitched a story on the spot, and Netflix later asked if he would work with Zack Snyder, who was already collaborating with Netflix. Oliva and Snyder developed the idea further, then brought on Eric Carrasco as head writer. Carrasco wrote the scripts with his writing team, with Oliva and Snyder providing notes. On June 10, 2021, during Netflix's Geeked Week, the title was revealed as Twilight of the Gods, along with the cast list. On June 24, 2021, KRAKN Animation was formed as a joint venture by Jay Oliva and Louis-Simon Menard to create the animation. Carrasco later stated the animation would take time but would be worth the wait. Xilam Animation was also confirmed as one of the animation studios. During the Rebel Moon promotional tour, Zack and Deborah Snyder revealed the series would be completed in summer 2024, confirmed eight episodes, and estimated a late-2024 release.
