Characters
Tara Duncan is the central figure of the series, a self-assured seventeen-year-old who is the most advanced spellbinder still in training and leads the Alpha Team. In the book series, she is twelve. She has blue eyes and blond hair with a pale highlight, and her magical companion is a pegasus named Gallant. Her magical strength is immense; as Sparrow notes in the episode "BFF," Tara’s powers alone are strong enough to cause a great deal of destruction. She once wanted to ask Master Chem what he knew about her mother, a deceased high spellbinder, but never got the chance, though Sparrow told her she could try again later.
Princess Gloria Daaval is Tara’s closest friend and a fellow animal lover on the Alpha Team. She goes by the nickname "Sparrow" to hide her true identity as a princess from another world and a curse that turns her into a horned, fanged monster when she feels furious, sad, or scared. She has brown, waist-length wavy hair and brown eyes, and her familiar is a white panther named Sheeba. She is dating a local boy named Edward, who is not a spellbinder and has blond hair.
Caliban Dal Salan, often called Cal, is the third member of the Alpha Team. He comes from a family of master thieves and outlaws, runs a video store, and has a very flirtatious personality. He has spiky black hair and gray eyes, and his familiar is a red fox named Blondin.
Isabella Duncan is Tara’s strict maternal grandmother. She raised Tara for the first seventeen years of her life after Tara’s parents died. She strongly insists that Tara focus on school and her spellbinding studies. She has an unusual romantic relationship with Tara’s literature teacher, Mr. Clarence Spade. Isabella also has a first cousin named Gabriella, who owns a magic shop that sells advanced mystical artifacts and spellbooks for low-level, upper-level, and topmost-level spellbinders.
Master Chem is an ancient dragon with blue scales. He leads and assists both the Alpha and Beta teams. His full name is Chemnashaovirodaintrachivu, and he serves as the Guardian of the Transit Portals that connect Earth and Otherworld.
Manitou Duncan is Tara’s maternal great-grandfather. He accidentally turned himself into a brown dog permanently. In the books, he is immortal but cursed to stay in the form of a brown Labrador retriever, which slowly erases his humanity until a spell allows him to speak like a human.
