Reception
Not everyone was charmed by Xuxa’s turn as Cinderella. Critic Rogerio Durst, writing in Jornal do Brasil, found her performance unconvincing. Renato Cabral of Papo de Cinema acknowledged that Xuxa’s films are rarely praised for technical craft or cinematic language, but noted their huge audiences and role in building a national film industry. He considered Lua de Cristal one of the few times the children’s star delivered a noticeably better product. The movie set a box-office record, drawing over 920,000 viewers in its opening week. That record stood for 16 years, until Two Sons of Francisco surpassed it in 2006.
