Lore & Background

The cover for the Standard Edition features Manchester City striker Erling Haaland. The Ultimate Edition cover features 31 iconic current and former players in a style akin to the album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, including Sam Kerr, Virgil van Dijk, Son Heung-min, Zinedine Zidane, Pelé, and David Beckham. Fans noted poor resemblance of many figures, leading EA vice president John Shepherd to state that in-game likenesses would be improved. Fans also noted the absence of Kylian Mbappé, Lionel Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo from the Ultimate Edition cover. The game introduces HyperMotion V technology, using volumetric data from 180 matches featuring predominantly English and Spanish professional men's and women's teams, available only on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. PlayStyles, a feature optimized by Opta Sports, includes 34 PlayStyles in 6 categories. Ultimate Team now includes women's footballers for the first time, with Alexia Putellas, Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, and Kylian Mbappé tied for the highest overall rating at 91. Icons and Heroes also include women's footballers for the first time. Clubs and VOLTA Football modes remained mostly unchanged, with updated graphics and cross-platform play introduced for same-generation consoles. The Nintendo Switch version uses the Frostbite game engine for the first time, with a capped frame rate of 30fps, but does not support HyperMotion V or cross-platform play with PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

In Their Own Story

The lobby screen loads. Where the familiar white-and-blue FIFA crest used to sit, there is now a clean, modern EA Sports FC wordmark. A player in a dimly lit bedroom in Lisbon taps through the menu — Ultimate Team, Career, Clubs — and then pauses on the new tile: VOLTA. The thumbnail shows a sun-bleached concrete pitch, a graffiti-tagged wall, three players in mismatched kits mid-dribble. She selects it. The match drops her into a narrow street court, the crowd noise replaced by the thump of a bass line and the sharp slap of a ball off concrete. For the first time in the series, the stadium is optional. She grins, lines up a first touch, and the new era begins not with a roar but with a quiet, confident tap of the ball against the ground.
