Lore & Background
He first turns up in the America chapter, blocking Cu Chulainn's attack on Mash so Karna can use Vasavi Shakti. In Camelot he is revealed to have woken Bedivere and sent him to the Singularity. In Babylonia he is one of the Servants summoned by Gilgamesh. He had kept Tiamat asleep until the killing of the Gorgon woke her; once Tiamat is lured into the underworld, he uses the flowers of his Garden of Avalon to shut down her Chaos Tide, turning it into ordinary mud and returning the underworld to Ereshkigal. After Solomon's sacrifice in the final Singularity, Merlin holds the title of Grand Caster.
