Kassie is introduced as the daughter of Ellie Bixler, whose husband has left the family, leaving Ellie to care for their three children alone in their L.A. apartment. After an earthquake uncovers a hidden chamber beneath the parking lot, her brother Danny retrieves religious artifacts, three phonograph records from 1923, and the Naturom Demonto, hoping to sell them to help Ellie. When Ellie becomes possessed by a Deadite, she returns to the apartment in a trance, menacingly threatens her family, and dies after pleading with Beth to protect her children. Ellie later revives and attacks the family. Kassie is tricked by her possessed mother into unlocking the door, leading to an attack. Later, Bridget becomes possessed and attacks Kassie, who inadvertently impales her through the mouth with a broken broom handle. After Danny is fatally stabbed by Bridget, Ellie attempts to rip the fetus out of Beth's pregnant belly, but Beth and Kassie incapacitate her with scissors. Ellie tries to emotionally manipulate Kassie, but Kassie accepts that her mother is gone. The possessed bodies of Danny, Bridget, and the neighbors merge into a multi-limbed creature called the Marauder, which captures Kassie and attempts to behead her with a chainsaw. Beth returns, distracts the creature, and together they destroy the Marauder by forcing it into a wood chipper. Beth and Kassie escape the building together.
