In the 1962-63 European Cup, Vasas lost a playoff 1-0 to Feyenoord, who then advanced to the quarter-finals. During that era, several Eastern European clubs withdrew from the first two rounds after UEFA matched them against each other. Due to the rebuilding of Sóstói Stadion, Vidi used Pancho Aréna and Groupama Arena for their home games. Debrecen, after being knocked out in the third round of the 2014-15 Champions League, moved into the 2014-15 Europa League play-off round. Similarly, Videoton, eliminated in the third round of the 2015-16 Champions League, entered the 2015-16 Europa League play-off round, and also played home matches at Pancho Aréna because of stadium work. MTK Budapest FC played at Ménfői úti Stadion while Hidegkuti Nándor Stadion was under reconstruction, and Vasas SC used Szusza Ferenc Stadion during the renovation of Illovszky Rudolf Stadion. After losing in the 2018-19 Champions League play-off round, Vidi qualified for the 2018-19 Europa League group stage. Ferencváros, eliminated in the third round of the 2019-20 Champions League, entered the 2019-20 Europa League play-off stage. They also lost in the 2021-22 Champions League play-off round, which put them into the 2021-22 Europa League group stage. Finally, after being eliminated in the third round of the 2022-23 Champions League, Ferencváros entered the 2022-23 Europa League play-off stage.
