Montenegrin clubs in European football competitions

Montenegrin clubs have competed in four UEFA competitions since independence.

After each competitive season, Montenegrin football clubs enter European competitions. Teams from Montenegro have played internationally since representing SFR Yugoslavia in the 1970s, and since 2006 they have qualified through the Montenegrin First League and Montenegrin Cup. Currently, three Montenegrin clubs take part in UEFA European Cups, with the league champion entering the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the second-placed team and cup winner entering the UEFA Conference League qualifiers.

UEFA Rankings

Since independence in 2006 and the establishment of the Montenegrin First League, Montenegro has been a full UEFA member and its league appears in the UEFA Country Ranking system. For the 2027–28 European football season, the Montenegrin First League is ranked 50th, with a previous year rank of 47th. The ranking is based on the country coefficient, and a historical list of rankings and coefficients is available.

UEFA competitions

Montenegrin football clubs have historically played in four UEFA club competitions: the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup), UEFA Europa Conference League, and Intertoto Cup. The champions of Montenegro have never reached the group phase of the UEFA Champions League; the most successful in the qualifiers was FK Zeta Golubovci in the 2007–08 season. In the UEFA Europa League, FK Zeta reached the playoffs, while OFK Titograd, FK Budućnost, and FK Sutjeska each reached Round 3. FK Budućnost Podgorica was the most successful Montenegrin club in the Intertoto Cup. As of the end of the 2025–26 season, 16 different Montenegrin clubs have played in UEFA competitions, including three that represented Yugoslavia or Serbia and Montenegro before independence. Lists of games, club scores, and performances against opponents by country are available.
