Ghanima Atreides

Daughter of Paul Atreides, twin of Leto II, pre-born imperial heir.

Ghanima Atreides, the daughter of Paul Atreides and Chani, was born alongside her twin brother Leto II at the close of Dune Messiah. Orphaned shortly after birth when Chani died and Paul walked into the desert, she was raised under the regency of her aunt Alia, with Princess Irulan as a surrogate mother. Like her twin and Alia, Ghanima was pre-born, possessing full adult consciousness and ancestral memories from the womb—a state the Bene Gesserit called Abomination. After surviving an assassination plot by Wensicia, Ghanima was forced into a marriage with Farad'n, orchestrated by the increasingly unstable Alia. Leto II’s return and Alia’s suicide led to Ghanima’s memories being restored. Leto then married her to consolidate power, though Farad'n remained her true consort to continue the Atreides bloodline.
