Lore & Background
Duke Nukem, working for general Graves, investigates Area 51 after reports of alien infiltration. After clearing the threat, he learns aliens need 'environmental regulators' to exist and follows them to the Temple of Amun in Egypt. There he discovers a collection of alien hybrid creatures in stasis, an army meant to take over the world. He shuts down a power source supplying their regulators, then activates an override pump to drain the hibernation tanks, killing the army. He destroys the controller alien, which triggers a self-destruct sequence; Duke escapes via an alien transporter to Sydney, Australia. Graves sends him to rescue an undercover agent from a nightclub. After rescuing the agent, Duke locates a doomsday weapon that can wipe out Earth's atmosphere and destroys it, then transports to an orbiting alien spaceship. He hacks the ship's system, finds four human females on board, and rescues them one by one. The women are clones of the agent, Jenny, used to propagate the alien species. Duke shuts down the ship's engine coolant system, escapes before the ship explodes, and returns to Earth. He declines debriefing by Graves, claiming he already 'debriefed' by having sex with Jenny 5.
In Their Own Story
The sky turned green. Sirens wailed. Duke Nukem, fresh from a victory against the forces of darkness, crushed his cigar stub into the asphalt. 'Looks like it's time for some alien pest control,' he muttered, checking the clip on his shotgun. A shadow fell over the city, and Duke grinned. 'Come and get some.'

The game offers four different control setups for shooting, jumping, strafing, weapon selection, and looking up and down. When paused, the player can view the level's map, pan around it, and zoom in or out. Some level secrets can be discovered by looking at the map.
