Kaioshin
The Supreme Kai: demon-born gods who watch over both the living world and the afterlife.
The Kaioshin, known as the Supreme Kai in the English anime dub and as Lords of Lords in Viz's English manga, are among the highest-level deities in Dragon Ball. They stand alongside the Gods of Destruction but below the Angels, the Grand Priest and the Omni-King. They are Glind, a demonic species born from Glind trees in the second Demon World; many left it to become gods in the multiverse.

Lore & Background
While the Kai watch over the living world, the Supreme Kai watch over both the living world and the Other World, the afterlife. They act as creation gods, providing the energy for new planets and species, while the Gods of Destruction destroy planets or civilizations when needed to keep their universe in balance. The Supreme Kai and their followers wear Potara earrings, which let two individuals fuse and allow a Supreme Kai to use a Time Ring.
Reader's Guide
Universe 7 originally had five Supreme Kai: four ruled its quadrants and a fifth, the Dai Supreme Kai, ruled over them. All but one met their fate at the hands of Majin Buu before the events of Dragon Ball; the Dai Supreme Kai was absorbed by Buu. The East Supreme Kai, whose true name is Nahare, became the de facto ruler of the universe and is always accompanied by his attendant Kibito.
The East Supreme Kai comes to Earth to recruit Goku and his friends to stop Babidi from reviving Buu. Gohan later trains on the Supreme Kai's planet with the Z Sword, and breaking it releases an elder ancestor of the East Supreme Kai, who stays on as his advisor. Kibito and the East Supreme Kai fuse into Kibito Kai through their Potara earrings and are only separated, between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Daima, by Majin Buu's gases.
