Ramón María Aller Ulloa (1878–1966) was a Galician astronomer, mathematician, and Catholic priest. He was a professor of geometry and mathematical analysis at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where in 1944 the university created and assigned to him the first chair in astronomy. He was also a member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences. Aller Ulloa specialized in double stars, discovering four that were named after him (Aller 1, Aller 2, Aller 3, and Aller 4), and invented several devices used for measurement and observation.

However, the IAU later adopted the name Atwood for that same crater—honouring the English mathematician George Atwood—introducing it provisionally in 1974 and confirming it officially in 1976. The crater, 28.64 km in diameter and 2.5 km deep, thus never permanently carried his name. Nevertheless, his broader impact endures: his four named double stars remain in the catalogue, his 78 articles and four books continue to be referenced, and his inventive instruments—purchased by the Paris Observatory and refined for Zeiss—testify to a mind that bridged priestly vocation, mathematical rigour, and hands-on engineering.
